MARGAO: In the first quarter of the year, the 16 police stations in South Goa registered five murders, two attempts to murder, one culpable homicide and six rape cases. All these cases were detected and the accused taken into custody.
Margao Town, Cuncolim, Curchorem, Canacona, Verna and Collem police stations each registered one murder case while Cuncolim and Verna police stations booked one case each of attempt to murder while the only culpable homicide case was registered at Ponda police station.
Colva, Fatorda, Canacona, Vasco and Ponda police each registered one rape case and Margao Town registered two such cases. Fatorda police station was the only one to report two cases of robbery.
Incidentally, of the five house breaking cases reported during day time, two each were detected by Maina Curtorim and Cuncolim police stations while Vasco police station did not detect any of the three cases registered by them.
In all 10 cases of house breaking at night were registered of which only three were detected, one each by Margao Town, Colva and Canacona police stations. While Maina Curtorim and Vasco could not detect the two night house breaking cases registered by them. Quepem, Curchorem and Verna police could not detect the single such cases registered at their police stations.
Of the 11 automobile thefts registered, six have been detected. Fatorda police have not been able to detect both the case registered by them while Margao Town, Ponda and Colva police failing to detect one such cases registered with them.
Police have detected all the 18 chain snatching cases registered with Ponda police detecting all the four cases registered. Police registered 14 cheating cases and detected 12 of them with only Margao Town and Fatorda police station failing to detect one each.
In all 33 injury cases were registered of which, the highest number being seven, were in Canacona and while there were six kidnapping cases registered, all were detected except for the one registered by Margao Town police station.
Incidentally, altogether 23 fatal accidents were registered in South Goa in the first three months of 2019 while there were 55 other accidents registered.
Not a single case of dacoity, receiving stolen property, counterfeit notes, escaping from legal custody and anti-corruption cases were registered at any of the police stations in South Goa.
