Inauguration of grade separator at Dabolim airport ‘shortly’

VASCO: Grade separator project is likely to be inaugurated shortly. Work on the approach road to grade separator is almost complete. The finishing work of this project is ongoing on war footing.
The grade separator project was started five years ago. Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) had taken up this project.
According to GSIDC website, the objective of bringing this project was to ease heavy traffic movement towards International Airport at Dabolim from Verna and Vasco side. Another reason behind bringing grade separator was to prevent present traffic congestion near traffic signal near airport.
This project consists of two flyovers on NH 17B, one towards Vasco side and another towards Verna side.
The total length of bridge is 575 metres. Estimated cost of this project was Rs 33,49,00,000.
This project started on February 22, 2014 and was supposed to be completed by December 31, 2018 but the project was delayed almost a year due to the permissions required from South Western Railway, closely located petroleum pipeline, change in the grade separator design and financial issues.
