PERNEM: Motorists are having a tough time to ride through NH 17 as MVR Company failed to repair the service roads and complete highway extension works, though it started in 2018.
It has become stressful to snake around every pothole on the national highway from Patradevi to Pedem since the road is completely in bad condition which is leading to minor accidents on daily basis. Monsoon made it even worse as it is difficult to understand the condition of road, especially for motorists since the potholes are filled with water.
Reportedly, more than 20 people have lost their lives while number of people sustained major injuries in road accident that have occurred on National Highway 17 between Patradevi to Dhargal and further till Guirim. However the MVR Company continues to turn blind eye towards this.
“There are neither sign boards nor reflectors on the road. Everyday at least two accidents take place due to the bad condition of the roads. There are huge potholes that the MVR Company has not leveled before rains making it difficult for motorists to commute”, Subhodh Mahale Dy Sarpanch of Ugvem-Tamboxem-Mopa said.
A daily commuter Yatiraj Naik regrets, “The continuous rain for last four days has made it difficult to ride on the NH 17 since the potholes are filled with water resulting motorbike directly enter into the potholes and cause damage”.
