Incomplete sewerage, open chambers come back to haunt Pondaites this monsoon

PONDA: Monsoon arrived with increasing risk for the Pondaites as the roads dug for the sewerage works are yet to be restored. The sewerage mud dump turning the roads greasy to ride makes it risky for motorist during the rain especially at Tisk and Dag Ponda road.

Locals regrets that for four years now the corporation taken people for granted and has failed deadline of finishing the sewerage work and levelling the roads. They insist that that government would be held responsible if any untoward incident occurs on the damaged roads during the rainy season.

A Ponda local Shivaji Naik said that more than fifteen days ago Pondaites have had demanded to stop the work on sewerage network lines, its manholes and chambers. However, few chambers still lay open at roadside and people fear that during rain such open chambers might prove risky and invite accidents.

“Generally PWD stops work by 15 May and by May end the roads are restored. This time sewerage work is on progress despite heavy rain is witnessed during this days,” said Naik.

The PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar had earlier said that all sewerage work would be completed by May end and roads would be restored by Hot mix carpeting. However they failed to do that.  The sewerage department made all effort to complete the work but at Daag Ponda as basalt rock formation is found for a stretch of 200 meters below the road, it delayed the work.
