An IndiGo flight was evacuated shortly after landing at the Chandigarh International Airport on Tuesday after smoke was detected inside the cabin, triggering emergency protocols and a swift response from the crew.
Flight 6E-108, operating from Hyderabad to Chandigarh, was carrying 198 passengers, two infants, and six crew members. The aircraft landed safely at approximately 3:29 PM. However, shortly after touchdown, a passenger alerted the cabin crew about smoke emanating from a power bank, reportedly due to an internal malfunction or explosion.

According to initial details, cabin crew responded immediately and used onboard fire extinguishers to control the small fire. While the flames were quickly doused, smoke had already begun to spread inside the cabin, raising concerns about passenger safety.
As a precautionary measure, emergency evacuation procedures were activated. Around 3:35 PM, crew members opened the emergency exits and passengers were evacuated using inflatable slides. The situation was handled in an orderly manner, though the sudden evacuation caused momentary panic among some passengers.
During the evacuation process, one passenger seated in 25F, identified as Richa, sustained a minor ankle injury. She was attended to on the ground following the incident.
An Air Force fire tender reached the aircraft bay by 3:38 PM as part of standard emergency response protocol. However, it was not required to intervene further, as the situation had already been brought under control by the cabin crew.
Airport authorities later confirmed that all passengers were safely evacuated and no major injuries were reported. An investigation is expected to determine the exact cause of the power bank malfunction and review safety procedures related to carrying electronic devices onboard.
