PANJIM: After being castigated by the opposition over negative growth on the industrial front and his claims of generating 50,000 jobs over the next five years, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said that ‘BJP is in power and it will see how to fulfil its promise’. Moreover, he has promised to notify the long-pending industrial/investment policy by March end.
The Chief Minister further asserted that he would initiate the process to take over the special economic zone (SEZ) designated land in the next two-three months after necessary directions from the Supreme Court. Around 36 lakh sq mtrs of land is blocked for SEZ.
Parrikar accused the previous Congress government for ruining the industrial sector by allowing illegalities and corruption. “Previous government has left behind mess in the industrial sector. This government is now working on putting everything in place,” he informed the House. The industrial /investment policy which is at draft stage would be finalized and notified by March end, the chief minister informed, while replying to Porvorim MLA Rohan Khanute who grilled Industries Minister Mahadev Naik for not doing anything about unutilized or underutilized plots.
Naik said that the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) issued 100 show-cause notices to plot owners who had either unutilized or underutilized plots for last several years. The plot owners have to reply by March-end.
