Inspection at Cuncolim ind estate

MARGAO: Japanese officials along with Goa State Pollution Control Board scientists inspected the Cuncolim Industrial Estate on Wednesday as part of the remediation plan for river Sal.

MARGAO: Japanese officials along with Goa State Pollution Control Board scientists inspected the Cuncolim Industrial Estate on Wednesday as part of the remediation plan for river Sal.
The team visited the hazardous waste dump site and collected samples of the waste left behind by Ms Sunrise Zinc. 
The team also excavated earth close to the hazardous waste dump and collected water samples from a bore well used by a ferro-alloy unit to check water contamination.
The team made its next stop at Nicomet factory and collected water samples from the test wells. They inspected the landfill site created by the unit and lifted away samples for testing.
Local activist Oscar Martins who had moved the Supreme Court to put a stop to pollution in the Cuncolim Industrial Estate along with scientist Joe D’Souza accompanied the Japanese delegation to the industrial estate.
