Vasco: The Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha and local authorities today inspected some scrapyard sites in Sancoale. They have discovered that almost all the scrapyards they visited have no legal documents or permissions whatsoever and have now decided to take action against them.
Initial inquiry into the lands used by the scrapyards revealed that these are being operated on rented lands leased out by some land owners. The inspection also revealed that these some scrapyards are operating on lands by the nallahs filled with debris narrowing the natural water channel. The Mamlatdar Satish Prabhu too was seen shocked with the blatant violations and has informed that the follow up survey and action against the same will be initiated.
The Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha has said that she was shocked to see blatant illegalities in operation of scrapyards. “The nallahs are being narrowed down by filling of debris. The ultimate goal may be to reclaim land in this manner for construction which we cant allow”, said MLA of Cortalim Alina Saldanha. She has also said that this cant go on further and necessary action against all these violators will be soon initiated.
“We have noted down information regarding these yards and most of them have no permissions whatsoever. All these issues will be looked into with focus on action against illegalities” said MLA Alina.
