MARGAO: Stating that a political game has been played in the name of Shivaji Maharaj in recent days, social activist Anthony D’Silva demanded erection of Jack Sequeira’s statue, the Father of Opinion Poll, in Velim constituency.
On Monday, he submitted a memorandum in this regard to the Velim MLA Cruz Silva, Alex D’Siva, Sarpanch of village panchayat Ambelim and Zilla panchayat member Julio Rodrigues.

He also questioned why not the people of Goa feel that the statue of Dr Jack Sequiera should be erected since it was due to him, Goa remained a separate State. “His contribution to the State cannot be forgotten,” he said.
“Considering the umpteen contributions and sacrifices made by Dr Jack de Sequeira to save Goa from getting merged with Maharashtra, he deserves to be recognised in many ways and one such way would be by erecting his statue,” D’Silva said.
He further said that he or people like him don’t have any problem in erecting statues of Shivaji in Goa, but the idea of Goa remained because of Dr Jack Sequeira.
“But it is shocking that hardly anyone comes forward demanding to erect the statue of Dr Jack Sequeira. Why not think about erecting a statue of Dr Jack Sequeira when we think of Shivaji Maharaj?” he questioned.
