MARGAO: A group of concerned parents on Tuesday appealed to the schools and higher secondary schools’ authorities to initiate an awareness programme on cyberbullying and the risks the young students can be exposed to on the internet.
The parents said, “The State government should make this mandatory given that over the last two to three years; there has been a tangible shift in the amount of time the students spend on the internet for their studies and they have also figured out how to access the internet on their own.”
While these parents stated that they try and protect their children as much as they can, they are worried about the effects of cyberbullying and how these young students of impressionable age can get adversely influenced by various forms of online intimidation.
The parents mentioned that this awareness programme should be introduced for the students of Class VIII and above.
The parents added that cyber security is of paramount importance given that a number of cases where persons have been impersonated online and such fake accounts ask contacts of the person they are impersonating for money.
The parents said, “The Cyber Crime Police should be part of these awareness campaigns too and also interact with the concerned parents too.”
