PANJIM: Seniority based promotions of around 300 police constables and nine sub inspectors (PSIs) in the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) of the Goa Police are mired in red tape.
Police sources said after a tentative seniority list of the first and second IRB was finalized, a few personnel were dissatisfied with it, which forced the department to constitute a two-member committee comprising superintendent of police (SP) and deputy SP of the Crime Branch. All representations were referred to the committee.
“The representations were examined and subsequently forwarded to higher ups and home department. The file was sent back to the committee with a noting by deputy inspector general of police (Dr O P Mishra) for discussion. But the committee has failed to proceed further,” a source disclosed.
“The file was initially pending with the committee for about four to five months before it was forwarded to the government. More so, they (crime SP and DySP) have not complied with the directions of the DIG as of now,” said the source. It is learnt that the final seniority list has already been finalized but an official release is yet to be made.
It is learnt that about five years back, some vacancies which were supposed to be filled through promotions had lapsed because of a similar reason. “It should not happen again,” the source informed.
The concerned officers were not available for comments till late Saturday evening.
