It all happens under the watch of the North Goa police

This is the third major incident of sexual violence in any form under the North Goa police jurisdiction and especially in the Mapusa police station area. While the one at Camurlim falls directly under the Mapusa PI, the Light House Charity rape was registered in Old Goa but the place where the incident was initiated was in the Mapusa police jurisdiction.

1. Woman raped at Camurlim, chilly powder inserted into her by rapist’s mother. Mapusa police registers non cognizable case only, tries to get victim to “sort” it out.
In this year itself the horrific rape and assault of a woman at Camurlim had exposed the malfunctioning of the Mapusa police station. Nothing has changed since then.
In the Camurlim issue that was reported in March, a single mother was cruelly tortured and sexually assaulted with even chilly powder being inserted in her genitals due to the lack of empathy and basic negligence of the police station headed by Tushar Vernekar.
Her previous complaints of harassment against her neighbour were registered as non-cognizable offences though the police were well aware of the nature of the crime. Earlier complaints too were filed as non-cognizable and there were efforts spearheaded by the police to get her declared as of unsound mind.
2. A minor inmate of a UK based charity Light House, at Tivim, found pregnant after she eloped with a male staff. Charity shuts and managers escape.
In the second case – of the statutory rape of an inmate by a staffer – the police were once again caught by surprise.
The problems at the home run by an UK based NGO where one of its inmates had to go through an abortion, caught the authorities napping. The ‘rapist’ is on bail and there are no efforts to get back the managers for questioning, when it is clearly established that the charity itself was running illegally.
Herald reports forced the authorities to search for the children – 32 of them- after the home was abruptly closed. Twenty seven of them are at another home run by El Shaddai, with the government in the dark about this.
