ITI courses equivalent to SSC, HSSC: minister

PANJIM: Craftsmen Training department will issue academic equivalent certificates on par with Goa Board’s SSC and HSSC certificates to Industrial Training Institute (ITI) students.

Minister Deepak Dhavalikar informed the Legislative Assembly on Friday that students who have failed in Class X and who sit for the two year ITI course will be issued a certificate which will be equivalent to the SSC qualification whereas candidates who attend the two-year ITI course after Class X will be issued a certificate which is equivalent to Class XII certificate. 
He informed the Assembly that the value of ITIs has gone up. “On my table the bunch of applications for admission in ITI is thicker than the LAQs,” the minister said. 
He said there are two candidates who have secured more than 80 per cent in the SSC exams and have chosen ITI, 30 candidates who have secured between 70 and 80 per cent, 178 candidates secured between 60 and 70 per cent and 698 candidates secured between 50 and 60 per cent at SSC. 
Dhavalikar said that the figures are very inspirational and announced that the department will be giving two buses each to Cacoda, Canacona, Panjim and Honda ITIs for the Schedule Tribe community. 
He added that a candidate who secured 81.5 per cent at the SSC exam has taken admission in Basic Cosmetology at Mapusa ITI, while the candidate who secured 80 per cent in SSC has chosen for COPA (Computer Programming Assistant) at Panjim ITI, the candidate who secured 78 per cent in SSC has taken admission in diesel mechanics at ITI Panjim, the candidate who secured 76.17 per cent in SSC has chosen motor vehicle trade course and the candidate who secured 76 per cent in SSC has opted for the electrician trade.
