Dy CM defends decision to pardon Mickky

PANJIM: Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza on Friday defended the Cabinet decision to pardon imprisoned Nuvem MLA Francisco (Mickky) Pacheco claiming that it is ‘era of reformation’.

“The current is era of reformation. We should not punish criminals. We should try to reform them. There are instances wherein sentences are reduced,” D’Souza said, adding that Mickky has already undergone imprisonment.
The minister on Wednesday afternoon, through circulation of file, resolved to pardon their former colleague Pacehco. The cabinet resolution has been referred to Governor Mridula Sinha for vetting.
When contacted, Speaker Rajendra Arlekar refused to comment on the cabinet decision. “It is the decision of the cabinet. It does not bother me. I will allow him to participate in the assembly, if he is pardoned. It is the decision of the government,” he said.
