PANJIM: After the State government through the Labour & Employment, Regional Employment Exchange and semi-government body like Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, etc has held nearly half-a-dozen job fairs this year, the State Directorate of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship has joined the initiative.
The department organized an ITI Job Fair 2018 inviting skilled candidates in different technical units. On Tuesday, the government ITI at Altinho saw corporations and around 30 private companies participating. The institute spokesperson stated that around 250 candidates appeared for interviews and got placement as per their choice.
“There was overwhelming response from job seekers as well as from employers/establishments. Trainees from various sectors from all over Goa participated,” a faculty member said.
Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited, Drishti Lifesaving Services, Yuva Shakti Foundation were among the participating departments/companies.
KTCL GM Sanjay Ghate said the corporation, as a part of Apprentices Act, enrolls 10 percent of the total technical staff through such placement fairs annually. “It is also a part of the ITI curriculum that students undertake practical training at (different employing companies). If at KTCL there is any vacancy, we even absorb these candidates,” he told Herald.
