MARGAO: With the current panchayat term reaching the half way mark, it’s time for rotation of the hot seat amongst the panchayat members.
Sarpanchas of two different villages from Salcete taluka have quit office as per an understanding within the ruling groups.
Assolna Sarpanch Framila Almeida has tendered her resignation to the office of the Director of Panchayats. Elected to office after the 2012 Panchayat polls, Framila had been in the saddle since then. She informed that she has decided to step down from office as part of an agreement to rotate the chair amongst the ruling members. She has thanked all the members for the support extended to her during her tenure.
At Varca, Sarpanch Charlton Lourenco has stepped down from office to make way for his successor. Charlton was elected to the hot seat a year and half ago and has stepped down as per the understanding.
“We had worked out an agreement wherein the chair will be rotated amongst the members every one year and half. I have completed my term in office and have quit office”, he said. Panch member Simon Fernandes is expected to succeed Charlton as and when elections are held for the vacant post.
Speaking to Herald, Charlton expressed his sincere thanks to the Panchayat members for their cooperation and support.
