PANJIM: After the illegal bhang party on Mahashivratri day at Colvale jail went wrong, the Prisons Department is likely to take action against the jail guard who was amongst three persons, two of the others being jail inmates, who fell ill after consuming the drink.
Jail guard Kiran Naik and two inmates Vinay Gadekar and Suryesh Arolkar were rushed to the hospital after it was suspected they had consumed bhang which was allegedly offered by another inmate Anil Bhuye. The Superintendent of Colvale Jail, V M Prabhudesai, was asked to submit a report to Inspector General of Prisons, Rajendra Mirajkar, after which the latter will decide the further course of action. Sources told Herald that the report was submitted to the head office on Thursday evening.
It is learnt through official sources that the jail guard might face disciplinary action for failing to report and stop the smuggling of bhang, and moreover consuming it. The department is also inquiring into how the ‘drink’ was smuggled in the well-guarded premises.
The illegal party was exposed after the threesome vomited on complaining of uneasiness. The Jail Superintendent thereafter confiscated the ‘drink’ stored in a bucket and lodged a police complaint at Mapusa police station against the accused.
