PANJIM: Prof Malapati K Janarthanam, from the department of Botany, has taken charge as officiating Vice Chancellor of Goa University, as the five-year term of incumbent VC Varun Sahni ended on Wednesday.
Sahni, who had taken charge as vice chancellor in July 2016, in his farewell address said, “Goa University is one of the finest organisations among universities at present,”
“Yes it is one of the finest University but if we are what we are let us never forget that it is because the State government was squarely behind u,” Sahni said.
Expressing his gratitude towards former Governor and Chancellor late Mridula Sinha and ex Chief Minister late Manohar Parrikar, Sahni said that it was only because of them that he was able to commence this journey.
He also thanked former Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar and incumbent CM Dr Pramod Sawant for the support, along with civil administration officers, GU faculty and students.
