MARGAO: Junior Chamber International (JCI) Zone President Yogesh Kerkar offered to support and back the State government in dealing with the waste in Goa by tackling the disposal of sanitary napkins and revealed that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had shown keen interest in the proposal.
“When we discussed with the Chief Minister, he in fact wanted to install the machines on a large scale in Goa and we are willing to partner the government in this endeavour,” he said speaking at a function organised at Holy Rosary Higher Secondary School. An incinerator to dispose sanitary pads that is called “Suraksha Machine” was installed at the school. This machine is prepared and promoted by the JCI and was sponsored by former minister Avertano Furtado for the school.
The incinerator can be mounted on a wall and has an attached pipe that goes up to one metre high to disperse the emerging fumes following the incineration of the napkins. The one installed at the school can dispose 6 pads at a time within 20 days.
