Jennifer hopes to ride on Babush’s goodwill for second term

TALEIGAO: Atanasio alias Babush Monserrate who has floated his own political outfit United Goans Party (UGP) to contest from Panjim constituency, has fielded his wife Jennifer to contest on Congress ticket from Taleigao.
Jennifer is Taleigao’s sitting MLA. She had defeated BJP’s candidate in March 2012 Assembly polls and now she is trying to retain her seat.  But, Jennifer feels she is capable of taking Taleigao forward with the goodwill of her husband, who served the constituency (Taleigao) for two terms as MLA and one in neighbouring St Cruz constituency.
“Babush is in Taleigao politics since 2002 and has built his team of well wishers and supporters that are working day and night tirelessly for Taleigao’s development. It is the strong support which Babush has gained in Taleigao, which gives him full encouragement to work completely in Panjim,” Jennifer said.
If any big issue, which needs to be addressed by Babush, he has always been there for the people of Taleigao, she says and mentions that ‘at the end of the day, Babush will come to Taleigao as it is his home’.
“He is also very happy that his team along with me has geared up for the coming Assembly election without his presence knocking each and every door in Taleigao,” Jennifer said.
She informed that Babush has not taken any of his Taleigao core team workers and supporters as he is working with a brand new team in Panjim.
“We are not doing any politics here, don’t want to do. We are for the development of Taleigao and for the improvement of all sections of the society,” the Taleigao MLA said.
“I know what people expect from their MLA and I have understood how to deliver the same during my tenure. I didn’t become MLA directly, I served as panch, sarpanch and even a Zilla Panchayat member before becoming MLA,” she informed.
