PONDA: The Dharbandora Deputy Collector Akshay Potekar on Friday held a meeting with Engineers of Water Resources Department, the PWD, and Health officials along with Sarpanch Priya Khandeparkar, Panchayat members and villagers and decided to conduct a joint inspection of Ragada River on Tuesday.
The meeting was held after villagers continuously complained about the polluted water supplied to them since past two weeks due to waste released into the Ragada by a fisheries plant.
Deputy collector Akshay Potekar told media that according to PWD officials, the treated water supply from the river released to consumers is safe and within permissible limit for drinking. However as villagers feel it is unsafe to drink this water, the joint inspection of river water would be conducted on March 12. Similarly samples of water will be taken for further testing. Till then the PWD has agreed to supply tanker water to villagers. Potekar also said he had directed his office to take action against person/s involved in pollution of the river.
Villager Bipin Naik demanded that samples of the river water should be tested at various places, including at treatment plant and also samples of water supplied to houses. He said, “PWD will supply us tanker water for few days but even thereafter we want clean water to drink. We want a permanent solution. We want a good quality water filtration plant installed by the Ragada river to supply us clean drinking water, on lines of the water treatment plant at Opa.
