Just an appeal, no deadline, confirms CM

Says he has asked Commercial Taxes Commissioner to clarify on cashless circular; gives traders time beyond December to make the transition

PANJIM: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Wednesday said that the circular issued by the Commissioner of Commercial Taxes, asking traders to go for cashless systems within 10 days, cannot be withdrawn but that fears among the traders will be resolved.
The Chief Minister’s statement came a day after his party demanded that the circular be withdrawn.
“It is an appeal to go towards a cashless society, for that, a deadline cannot be set. Not cashless, it could start with less cash, I have asked the department to give a clarification,” Parsekar said.
He, however, reiterated that going cashless is possible in Goa and that the State will be the first in the country to do so. “It is possible in Goa, everyone has cell phones here. Goan youth are smart they can teach their parents to use the cashless system in future,” he said.
