PANJIM: The Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited Union on Saturday suspended their long-drawn out protest underway at Azad Maidan, Panjim. The Union claimed that the government partially accepted their demands. We will suspend our protest and wait for government to fulfill the remaining demands, they said.
Adv Suhaas Naik of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) said, “We agree things will gradually happen and we welcome the agreement proposed by the Chief Minister. We are looking forward to settling of all the demands raised by us. If they demands are not met then we will not hesitate to continue with the protest again.”
Speaking to reporters, Naik warned, “If the agreement is not signed and pending demands are not fulfilled, we will hit the road again with a much larger force. We are not suspending this protest on verbal assurance, we have seen the minutes of the meeting and we have been handed over with the draft.”
He said most of the demands have been fulfilled by the government, except for the payment of provident fund arrears. “We had demanded 250 buses and the government has sanctioned 50 as of now. The remaining will follow,” Naik added. “We are firm on our demand of 250 buses and slots of three more buses will follow,” Naik said
“Fifty new buses will be used on interstate roads which are profit making routes. We are asking government to provide with good buses so that we can provide good services to the commuters. If we have to sustain KTCL in the future then we have to upgrade our service, so that commuters do not go to private buses”, he added.
