Kala Academy will be opened after PWD hands it over: Minister

PORVORIM: Arts and Culture Minister Govind Gaude on Friday told the Legislative Assembly that the renovated Kala Academy will be opened for the public only after the Public Works Department (PWD) hands it over to the Directorate of Art and Culture.

“We are trying to open it as soon as possible. Date of opening will be announced after the PWD hands it over to us. At the moment, I cannot declare the date of opening. Inspection is scheduled this month,” Gaude said while replying to discussion on demands for grants for the Directorate of Art and Culture.

Gaude further announced that the government will announce the library policy by the end of this month. The policy is being framed by a committee headed by Dr Nandkumar Kamat, he said adding that it would be the first library policy of the country. He also said while nine libraries have been opened across the State recently, the foundation stone for libraries at Ponda and Vasco will be laid soon. The Minister admitted that the government is facing a shortage of land for constructing auditoriums across the State.
