A 33-year-old truck driver Jagdesh Madar from Karnataka was rescued after being trapped inside his vehicle following an accident at Panarim on Thursday evening.
The driver has been identified as Jagdesh Madar, a resident of Bijapur in Karnataka. According to fire officials, the incident occurred around 4 pm when the fire brigade received a call reporting that a truck driver was trapped after an accident. The team rushed to the spot and carried out a rescue operation using hydraulic tools to safely extricate him. He was later shifted to hospital for treatment.
Ward member Harish Mayekar said the truck had rammed into an electric pole. After being alerted by a local resident, he contacted the fire brigade, ambulance, police, and electricity department, all of whom responded promptly. He noted that the impact was severe, leaving the driver completely trapped inside the vehicle. Rescue personnel had to cut through parts of the steering to free him. A minor boy who was seated beside the driver escaped without any injuries.
Local resident Jose Alphonso said that villagers rushed out after hearing a loud noise. They found the driver trapped and calling for help, provided him with water, and tried to keep him calm until emergency services arrived.
Truck owner Dilesh Gomes stated that the vehicle was returning after unloading mud when it reportedly suffered brake failure on a slope, causing it to crash into an electric pole. He said the truck was extensively damaged in the accident. He thanked the emergency services and villagers for their timely assistance, adding that the vehicle has been cleared from the site and repairs will be undertaken.
