PANJIM: The Anjuna Police arrested Shekhappa Lamani (20), a native of Gadag, Karnataka on the charge of killing his elder sister Anasuya Lamani.
According to the police, the family were residing in a rented room at Fuldemwado-Nagoa. On Friday, the owner Ajay Arolkar informed the police that the room door of his tenant is locked from outside and foul smell is emanating from the room.
Accordingly, the Anjuna Police team headed by PI Suraj Gawas visited the spot and after enquiry broke open the lock of the door and found the body lying on the bed in a decomposed state. The victim’s head was smashed with a cricket bat.
The police said that the victim was working a maid servant and was staying with her brother Shekhappa, who was found missing since June 9.
The accused was unemployed and was dependent on his sister’s earnings. He also used to frequently fight with the victim for money, the police said.
A police team under PSI Amir Taral was immediately deputed to Gadag, Karnataka to trace the accused and the police with the help of their counterparts in Gadag arrested Shekhappa. Following a complaint by victim’s elder brother Hemappa Lamani (29), the Anjuna Police have registered a case against the accused under Section 302 of IPC. Further investigations are on.
