PANJIM: A new party drug ‘amphetamine’ has entered the synthetic drug scene in Goa, with anti narcotics sleuths arresting one Rajendra Patil for possessing the substance at Calangute on Tuesday night.
SP (ANC) Kartik Kashyap who led the raiding team, said the foreigners usually have a monopoly of this form of drug.
Patil, 47, originally hailing from Karnataka was found with 103 gms of amphetamine, valued at a whopping Rs 5.15 lakh, in the international market.
Police caught him red-handed while he was waiting for his prospective customer near a pharmacy at Naikawado in Calangute.
Amphetamine is taken through any method and it is also soluble in water. While it has a long term effect on the health of a person consuming the narcotics, its overdose could prove fatal.
Meanwhile, Patil has been remanded to judicial custody. “The accused wanted to earn more money by selling drugs in Goa,” the police press release reads.
