CANACONA: In an accident reported on NH66 at Barcem early Monday morning, the driver of a Wagon-R rammed his car onto an oncoming bus. He was rushed to Balli Primary Health Centre in critical condition and was declared dead on arrival.
The police identified the driver of the car as Dilan Gaonkar, 29 a resident of Karwar, staying temporarily at Verna.
Cuncolim police said that the ill fated Wagon-R car was proceeding towards Canacona while the oncoming inter-State bus was coming in opposite direction. Both the vehicles collided against each other whilst negotiating a sharp turn at Barcem in the early hours of Monday.
Sources close to the investigation team said that the driver of the ill fated car strayed on the wrong lane while negotiating a blind curve ultimately banging head-on to the bus.
The impact of the collision was such that the car was dragged to a distance of about 20 mts before it went down a dry water drain. Police said that after performing post mortem the body of the victim was handed over to his family.
