PONDA: Stating that Kavlem faces major problem of power outages, Sarpanch Rajesh Kavlekar on Sunday demanded that the Electricity Department immediately shift the main 11 kv line at Curti, which passes through the jungle to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the village.

He said the delay by the Electricity Department in maintaining streetlights is causing hardship to the locals. There are power cuts several times a day for unknown reasons and shifting the main line passing from jungle area is the only solution.

Sarpanch Rajesh said, “In the last eight days the village plunged into darkness twice as the main 11kv line at Curti supplying power to Kavlem and two other neighbouring panchayats of Durbhat-Agapur and Talaulim snapped. It took several hours for the Electricity Department personnel to restore power supply. Due to soaring temperatures it is difficult for villagers to stay without power. Further the students preparing for exams too face hardship.”

Sarpanch Rajesh also demanded that the department repair the non-functional streetlights immediately.

He said the junior engineer attached to Kavlem electricity office needs to work efficiently to solve grievances immediately. Recently, the streetlight switch was rendered non-functional and despite informing the junior engineer the village streets were in darkness for four days.

The junior engineer said the streetlight would be repaired only after the department sanctions the amount.

“Finally, I spent my money and got the streetlights functional. Each monsoon there are power outages and the department should find solution,” he demanded.
