PANJIM: The Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) on Saturday assured protesting taxi operators that it will scrap GoaMiles app-based taxi service if the party is voted to power in the next Goa Assembly elections.

MGP President Deepak Dhavalikar along with other party members met taxi operators at Azad Maidan, here. He said that party’s Central Committee has passed a resolution to extend support to taxi operators demand to scrap GoaMiles app-based taxi service in the State.
Dhavalikar requested taxi operators to maintain social distancing and to continue their protest by following Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to prevent spread of coronavirus.
Dhavalikar said the MGP had demanded the formation of the Goa State Mining Corporation when they were partners in the coalition government in 2017. But it fell on BJP’s deaf ears and the same government was now talking about formation of Goa State Mining Corporation keeping an eye on the next Assembly elections.
The MGP slammed the Sawant government for undertaking projects under the public-private partnership (PPP) basis when the then Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had scrapped projects under PPP basis.
Dhavalikar said it is now high time that the Sawant government change its mindset towards the people of Goa. Dhavalikar said the MGP will approach the courts to get the two rebel MLAs disqualified irrespective of decision of the Speaker Rajesh Patnekar reserved on April 20.
When asked whether he was optimistic that the Speaker will disqualify two party’s former MLAs Babu Ajgaonkar and Deepak Pauskar for joining Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Dhavalikar said, “No matter what decision is given by the Speaker, the party will approach the High Court and also Supreme Court and get the two defectors disqualified.”
