Kavlem locals irked over closure of Kavlem-Khadpaband road

PONDA: The Kavlem locals were irked over the blocking of controversial Kavlem-Khadpaband road with rubble stones by one builder, on Friday.

The road is used by the locals as it is a shortcut route to the Ponda city.

The  road has been found in controversy with Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) claiming it is illegal and want to close it while Kavlem Panchayat claims it is legal and has even warned the PMC not to go ahead with its plan to close it as it would invite law and order situation.

According to the PMC, the road never existed in the ODP of Ponda city. The PMC had passed a resolution to close the road on May 11. Immediately, the next day, Kavlem Panchayat Sarpanch Rajesh Kavlekar warned the PMC not to close the road claiming it is legal and the local MLA Sudin Dhavlikar also had the document of PWD acquiring land for the said road.

However, according to the PMC, the said land acquisition is not at existing road. The builder had wrongly created it at existing place.

PMC while passing a resolution to close the road has even mentioned to recover the cost from the builder as he had created the few metres road stretch in the area that has found now in controversy.

However, late Friday evening after the Kavlem locals expressing furore over blocking the road, it is learnt that the said builder has cleared the rubble dump and opened the road.
