PONDA: Taking into consideration that the family members should not suffer to perform final rites on account of COVID deaths, Kavlem Village Panchayat on Sunday opened the panchayat crematorium for performing last rites of COVID deceased.
Sarpanch Rajesh Kavlekar said, “Final rites of one local woman died after COVID illness was performed at Vainkutdham crematorium on Sunday. The family present with personal protective equipment (PPE) kit lit the pyre. I along with the family and relatives of dead woman and some local youth also attended.”
It may be recalled that only selected crematoriums are performing final rites of COVID-19 infected bodies across the State while some of the locals in various parts of Goa had opposed to the last rites of deceased due to COVID.
“Taking note that the COVID deceased should be laid to rest respectfully, this step was taken to allow to perform last rites at Kavlem village crematorium,” said Sarpanch Kavlekar.
