PONDA: Kavlem villagers on Friday expressed concerned over sewerage treatment plant work progressing at a sharp turn located opposite the Kapileshwar Temple without installing any cautionary signboard to alert the vehicles.
The vehicles moving towards Kavlem from Ponda are travelling at a speed and get confused after seeing the sewerage chamber dug at the sharp turn, where the workers are engaged in constructing sewerage chamber.
Umesh Naik, a local said, “This may invite accidents. Already, few months ago there was car and truck accident on this spot wherein four persons were seriously injured. Hence, the locals demand that the officials conducting supervision on the STP work should install precautionary signboard warning ‘Work Under Progress’ asking to drive the vehicles at slow speed.
It may be recalled that the 15 MLD Sewerage Treatment Plant is coming up at Kavlem. The sewerage from Ponda town and Kavlem Panchayat would be treated at this plant and so the pending work on STP at Kavlem and Ponda is progressing but without cautionary signboards.
