Threaten road blockade at Jamboti on June 2

BELGAUM: Growing road mishaps along the Belgaum-Goa road via Chorla is not only cause for concern among the commuters, it has also irked residents from Khanapur taluka who have warned of a road blockade at Jamboti on June 2.
A delegation led by Khanapur TP member Dhanashree Desai on Thursday submitted an ultimatum to the district administration to take immediate measures to prevent the accidents and erect signboards at dangerous turns where the accidents frequently take place.
The interstate road via Chorla is the shortest between Goa and Belgaum and is frequented by motorists and commuters from both states.
Apart from demanding a ban on overloaded and heavy vehicles, the delegation which presented a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner has suggested erecting signboards at major turns, setting up of reflectors at accident prone locations and setting up of speed breakers at certain points.
“We are seriously concerned about the lives of motorists and commuters from both the states due to the rising number of accidents. Incidents of dacoity are also being reported in the last few days. We have given an ultimatum of May 31 to the district administration to initiate measures in order to save loss of life and property due to accidents.
In case of any negligence, a road blockade agitation will be held at the main circle at Jamboti on June 2,” warned Desai.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner N Jayram assured the delegation that the matter would be discussed with Karnataka Road Development Corporation Ltd, the authority which is responsible to construct and maintain the road and appropriate measures are initiated.
