CANACONA: Residents of Khola on Sunday forced adjournment of the gram sabha after they refused to continue without the presence of the sarpanch.
A large number of members had turned up for the gram sabha and patiently waited for the arrival of Sarpanch Anjali Velip. The panchayat secretary sought to carry out proceedings with deputy sarpanch at the chair.
As the agenda was taken up and villagers began to ask questions, no response came from the chair, saying only the sarpanch is in a position to answer the queries raised and members were advised to wait for reply when the sarpanch attend the next gram sabha. This angered the members, who began to ask the secretary what was the use in continuing with the gram sabha, if members cannot get response to their queries.
Members then demanded to adjourn the gram sabha till sarpanch can attend and reply to the members.
Finally, the panchayat secretary in the presence of BDO observer adjourned the gram sabha.
It is learnt that Sarpanch Anjali Velip, being unwell could not attend the meeting, while most other panchas including the deputy sarpanch were present.
