PANJIM: The Nationalist Congress Party has hit out at the government for imposing what they term is over and above the number of working days and instructional hours recommended by the Right to Education (RTE) Act.
The RTE Act provides for 200 working days and 800 instructional hours for primary schools, the State Government has fixed 237 working days and 200 instructional days with directions that each day will have five and half hours, which amounts to 1100 instructional hours, the NCP said.
For secondary schools too, the Government has directed to have 237 working days and 1100 instructional hours as against 220 working days and 1000 instructional hours recommended by RTE Act.
“The Goa Government has issued this direction to give an impression that when it is opposed by a large section of teachers, students and parents affected, the Government then will decide to withdraw it and project itself that it has a ‘listening ear’,” the NCP has said.
