MARGAO: Konkan Railways has intensified its drive against ticketless travellers and penalised 18,466 train passengers, collecting Rs 5.60 crore in fines in the three months from October to December 2023. In December 2023 alone, 6,675 unauthorised or irregular travellers were caught without tickets, and fines totalling Rs 1.95 crore were recovered.
It may be recalled that Konkan Railway had carried out a similar drive for a three-month period before the present initiative.
In response to these developments, Konkan Railway has issued a resolute appeal to passengers, urging them to embark on their journeys with pride, dignity, and, crucially, valid tickets.
Underscoring the importance of adherence to regulations, railway authorities have announced plans to intensify ticket checking operations over the next couple of months as well.
“Passengers are implored to embrace the principles of ‘garv se yatra karein, Sammaan se yatra karein, ticket lekar abhiman se yatra karein’ – that comes from holding a valid ticket. Konkan Railway remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring a seamless and lawful travel experience, and passengers are encouraged to collaborate in this collective endeavour,” railway officials added.
