MARGAO: The Konkan Railway Corporation (KRC) has carried out its pre-monsoon safety works to ensure safe journey for passenger as well as freight trains. The area covered is from Kolad, which is after Roha station of Central Railway and up to Thokur which is before Mangalore station.
The workers have cleaned and cleared all the water drains along the route besides also checking and testing the various cuttings. Baban Ghadge of KRC pointed out that for the last five years there has been no disruption of rail service along the route due to falling of boulders as used to happen earlier.
KRC will also carry out monsoon patrolling with 770 staff patrolling the route. While the vulnerable locations will be patrolled round the clock there will be watchmen on duty for 24 hours at the critical locations.
Baban informed that train pilots have been instructed to operate the trains at reduced speed of 40 kms per hour at times of heavy rainfall and if visibility is not very clear.
Two Accident Relief Medical Vans with provisions of operation theatre and fully equipped to provide emergency medical aid will be ready at all times at Ratnagiri and Verna railway stations. Besides the wireless communication has also been strengthened with the train pilots and guards provided with walkie talkies.
