PANJIM: A travel and tours agency has lodged a police complaint against a travel agent for an alleged mismanaged international tour and duping the former of several lakhs of rupees.
Ashwini Shetye alleged that over 50 elderly travelers from Goa were held hostage at a hotel in Thailand after the travel services from Vasco made no prior and proper arrangements like visa on arrival, accommodation, etc. Ashwini alleged that the local agent also charged the company additional air fare at the last minute, total cost of which is calculated around Rs 15 lakh.
“No proper arrangement was made for the passengers despite making all payments to the travel agent. Instead last minute changes were made creating lot of inconvenience to passengers. It has duped us of many lakhs,” Ashwinin alleged at a press conference on Monday.
In response, Purshottem Shetye rubbished the allegations claiming Ashwini is taking undue advantage of his absence in Goa to defame him.
“I have done nothing wrong with Ashwin Shetye tour and completed the tour. As we all know money is the essence of conducting tour along with documents such as passports and concrete numbers. Ashwin Shetye failed in providing all three components.”
Purshottem added, “Ashwin Shetye till the last minute delayed the payments even after making repeated requests to him on several occasions even after collecting money well in advance from his clients. He also failed to submit passports in time and also failed to provide a concrete number of passengers till the last minute,” he said in a message through social media.
Purshottem also alleged that Ashwini has put him into a loss of Rs 2,99,000 and to recover the same he will take appropriate legal action. Both companies are said to be from Vasco.
