PERNEM: The labourers engaged at the AYUSH Hospital site at Dhargal on Monday stopped work demanding their pending wages of the last six months.
The protest follows a similar agitation wherein the workers engaged at the Mopa Airport site demanded their pending wages.
On Monday, around 25 to 30 labourers working at the AYUSH Hospital site confronted the construction company officials demanding that their wages be released immediately. However, the company officials told them that they had already paid the contractors and that the contractors are duty-bound to pay the labourers their wages. However, a contractor said the cash amount released by the company on a monthly basis is not enough to pay the labourers’ wages.
The labourers complained that neither the contractor nor the company is ready to take any responsibility and due to this the workers are suffering.
They further said a few labourers recently returned to their States as they were given only the travelling allowance and were not paid their wages. A labourer, who recently lost a family member, wanted money to return to his State, but he too was left unpaid.
