CUNCOLIM: Lavita Mascarenhas has been elected unopposed as the Chairperson of Cuncolim Municipal Council (CMC).
Directorate of Municipal Administration had called for a special CMC meet to elect the chairperson. Since there was only one nomination of Lavita, the presiding officer Darshani Dessai declared her elected unopposed as the chairperson.
Councillors namely Videsh Dessai, Ashok Fadte Dessai, Kiran Naik, Shashank Dessai, Angela Paiginkar and Uddesh Gaonkar supported Mascarenhas.
It may be recalled that Polita Carneiro was voted out of office in a no- confidence motion moved by seven councillors.
MLA Clafasio Dias said, “Since one year Cuncolim has not witnessed any development due to the non-cooperation from the former chairperson. Now, we will work together for Cuncolim’s development.”
Lavita said she will work in coordination with the councillors to develop the town.
BJP-backed councillor Videsh Dessai said they have supported Lavita only for the development of Cuncolim.
