CUNCOLIM: Lavita Mascarenhas and Mario Moraes were elected as chairperson and vice chairperson of the Cuncolim Municipal Council (CMC) on Thursday.
Addressing the press after the results, Lavita said that her priority would be to complete the pending development works in the town. She also said that the council will strive to resolve the issues of the municipality and improve its functioning and that the council’s priority will be to collect outstanding dues. She added, “The council has to search for new ways to increase revenue. Garbage and other problems will be taken up on priority.”
Lavita and Mario defeated Kiran Naik and Videsh Dessai by 7-5 votes respectively.
Vice Chairperson Mario Moraes praised Cuncolim MLA Rajan Naik and said that they will meet him to discuss developmental works.
Meanwhile, former MLA Joaquim Alemao expressed happiness at his group getting the majority in the council and thanked the voters for welcoming him back in Cuncolim politics.
It is also learnt that Sashank Dessai will be the chairperson of the Standing Committee.
