New Margao councillors sworn in at Lohia Maidan

MARGAO: The newly elected councillors, including the chairperson and vice chairperson, of Margao municipality were sworn into office at the Lohia Maidan on Thursday. Twelve councillors took the oath in Konkani, 12 in English and one in Marathi.

MARGAO: The newly elected councillors, including the chairperson and vice chairperson, of Margao municipality were sworn into office at the Lohia Maidan on Thursday. Twelve councillors took the oath in Konkani, 12 in English and one in Marathi.
“I have confidence in the elected council and myself too. We will care for the people and take responsibility for them no matter what caste, creed or religion they belong to,” said Babita Angle, the new MMC Chairperson, at the ceremony.
Meanwhile, Margao’s Civic Society handed over a ‘citizen’s charter of demands’ to the new council at the ceremony. The demands include: resource mobilisation by reducing the arrears to not more than 15 percent of the receivable amount within 12 months; a landfill and plant fully operational within a year and conclusive meetings of the High Powered Committee; secular infrastructure, like public toilets, parking arrangements, CCTV surveillance; and action against illegal encroachments and establishments.
