MARGAO: GR Kare College of Law has teamed up with the Margao Sub Divisional Police Office to raise awareness about the Good Samaritan Scheme, a programme aimed at protecting citizens who assist road accident victims during emergencies. The campaign, inaugurated on Monday by Salcete Deputy Superintendent of Police Sidhant Shirodkar at the law college, seeks to inform the public about the scheme’s benefits and legal safeguards.

The Good Samaritan Scheme provides protection and rewards to those who help road accident victims, particularly during the critical “golden hour” after an accident. The scheme ensures that Good Samaritans are not obliged to reveal their personal details or stay at the accident site unless they voluntarily choose to do so. Police are instructed to treat them respectfully, and any statement they provide can be recorded at their convenience, including via affidavit.
By addressing concerns about harassment or legal complications, the initiative encourages citizens to step forward and save lives without fear. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has laid out detailed guidelines to support Good Samaritans and uphold their dignity, aiming to foster a culture of mutual aid and responsibility.
