Leaders who indulged in anti-party activities likely to face expulsion

PANJIM: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the single largest party is set to form the government next week but, dissapointed with anti-party activities, the high command is likely to deal with them with an iron hand. Sources told Herald that all those who worked against the official candidates during the election process are likely to face expulsion. However, it is not certain whether some current elected candidates – accused of “working hard” to defeat incumbent CM Dr Pramod Sawant and Mauvin Godinho- are also in the list.

“Some of them worked against the candidates in their respective constituencies. This is one of the reasons for their defeat,” sources said as the meeting of 20 defeated candidates was held in the party headquarters, Panjim on Friday.

The meeting that lasted for a couple of hours was headed by Dr Sawant, BJP State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade and Organisational Secretary Satish Dhond.

The party that went solo in the 2022 Polls and vouched to get 22 or more seats had to settle for 20 seats. Though it had a landslide victory, the party leaders have been analysing their loss in other constituencies. “The office bearers or Karyakartas or anyone from the party who worked against their candidates will be taken to task. They are being identified and a report will be sent to the High command in Delhi. They might be expelled too,” sources said.

At the same time, everyone who tirelessly worked to bring victory to their candidates will be rewarded. “We have so many who worked overtime to ensure their candidates win the seats. Such loyalists will be rewarded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah,” said another.
