CANACONA: A three-month old leopard cub which was trapped on a tree at Patnem was rescued by wild life rescue team, on Tuesday morning. The rescued cub was later shifted to Hathipaul Rescue Centre for treatment and rehabilitation.
Sources informed that the cub was found trapped on a tree trunk by a resident of Patnem, at 7 am.
Immediately, the wild life rescue office at Hathipaul was intimidated about the presence of a leopard cub on a tree in a residential area and the urgent need for it to rescue as there was a fear that the juvenile cub might jump down to death from the tree. The rescue of the cub was so difficult that it needed assistance of the fire brigade personnel.
Later, when a member of the rescue team was about to reach the cub, the cub jumped and fell into the net which was already laid to protect the cub in case if it decides to jump down.
The rescued cub was then taken to Hathipaul Rescue Centre for treatment, the sources informed.
Meanwhile, wild life enthusiasts in Canacona have started a drive on social media asking the locals to report to the Forest Department if they have any clue of the mother of the rescued cub so that the cub can be reunited with her mother.
