PONDA: A team from Forest department has rescued a leopard from a cable trap laid for poaching wild boar at Kerwada Usgao. It took around four for the complete rescue operation.
Sangam Naik, one of the residents saw the leopard who was trying to free itself from the cable trap.
He immediately informed the Forest officials following which a Forest team led by ACF Anand Jadav, RFO Deepak Bethkikar, Vilas Gawas, Sidhesh Naik, Prajyoth Naik, forest guard Devu Shetkar, Sachin Sawanth, Rajan Gaonkar, Rama Devgunkar, Pramodh Malik, Ali Sheikh, and Surendra Gaonkar rushed to the
spot. At the initial process, the team had to tranquilise the animal, later moving it into a cage.
The leopard was later carried to Bondla Wild Life sanctuary where treatments were conducted for its injuries.
The locals had complained that the poaching of wild boar and other animals are on the rise in Usgao area. The poachers are a threat to wild animals.
