Let’s connect, US trade delegation member tells Goa Inc

Purnima Voria says Goa can become a role model for other states in India

PANJIM: During her short and crisp first visit to Goa, Purnima Voria, founder and CEO of the Denver-based National US India Chambers of Commerce (NUICC), said that start-ups is something that the US could engage in.
Addressing a large gathering at the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), Voria’s bottom-line message to Goans was “Let’s Connect”.
“Start-up is something that we definitely want to engage with. Israel is known as a Start-Up Nation, then why can’t Goa be called as a Start-Up State? Start-Ups are not just generating ideas but are also into full-fledged business,” said Voria who is now a resident of Denver, Colarado, but originally hails from Rajasthan.
Apart from visiting two temples in Goa, Voria met with Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and discussed several issues. According to Voria, the Chief Minister was categorical on getting education and a “clean technology” which would generate jobs but at the same time protect the environment of the State.
She added that she will be happy to see Goa on the global map with some success stories that will help Goa brand itself as creating something very valuable, which the rest of India can adopt. “My solemn promise to Chief Minister Parrikar was that we will create some programmes for Goa exclusively and we would like to see Goa as an
exemplary State for the rest of India and be known for entrepreneurship. We will be happy to support Goan companies who would like to take our assistance for business in USA,” added Voria.
She added that after this interaction, there will be more trade and business opportunities in USA for Goan companies. “Both GCCI and NUICC can play a very pivotal and vital role in developing this relationship,” Voria added.
She said the United States economy has been the world’s largest for more than 100 years and has recorded $18.6 trillion in the economy last year. In terms of trade, the total value of trade was $4.9 trillion last year.
The event was attended by people from several walks of life, including start ups and young entrepreneurs.
