VASCO: The Excise department conducted raids at two different places in Baina on Gandhi Jayanti and seized Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth Rs 92,000.
Excise inspector Mukund Gauns said that raids were conducted in view of Gandhi Jayanti being a national dry day. He said that during inspection in the Mormugao taluka they spotted crowd outside a provision shop at Baina and during search no liquor was found. But the shop had a small access leading to a mezzanine floor where cartoons of alcohol were stored.
The Excise inspectors suspected that the shopkeeper was allegedly selling alcohol in parcel system to his customers. Later, all the IMFL bottles were seized, valued at Rs 66,000.
In another raid, the Excise officials seized IMFL bottles worth Rs 26,000 from a roadside make-shift. On seeing the excise officials, the people as well as the stall owner fled from the spot. Gauns said adding that cases have been registered in this regard.
