Liver transplant facility at GMC soon: Health Minister

Cancer patients to be referred to KLE, Belgaum

PANJIM: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Saturday said that a liver transplant facility will be provided at Goa Medical College (GMC) soon. The Health Minister also said that the government will refer cancer patients to KLE in Belgaum, till the time GMC gets a full-fledged cancer section. 
“I had assured to start kidney transplant and it has started successfully so now we have to move forward. Liver transplant facility will be provided in GMC soon,” Rane said, addressing the gathering during the World Health day.
He added, “Goa government will refer cancer patients to KLE in Belgaum, till a full-fledged cancer section in GMC is ready and these patients will be able to get treatment under DDSSY scheme. I have spoken to the doctors and have visited the hospital.”
Health Services Director Dr Sanjeev Dalvi said that the health services catered to 79,140 in patients and 16,91,934 out patients in 2017-18. “Infant mortality rate for Goa has reduced to 8 per 1000 live birth as compared to 39 for India and maternal mortality is 61 per lakh live births as compared to 167 for India. The total fertility rate for the State is 1.7 and sex ratio as per census 2011 is 973,” Dalvi said.
He added, “There is also a decline in the sex ratio over the last 2 to 3 years which needs to be addressed with utmost seriousness.”
The Director added that under the Revised National Tuberculosis Control Program 244 cases of tuberculosis have bene notified and a cure rate of 84 per cent has been achieved.
